How to Choose an IQF Spiral Freezer for Your Production Line

A practical guide to matching an IQF spiral freezer with product type, capacity, residence time and factory layout.

How to Choose an IQF Spiral Freezer for Your Production Line

Why use a spiral IQF freezer?

An IQF spiral freezer uses a compact vertical layout to provide longer freezing residence time in a limited floor area. It can be useful when a production line needs controlled freezing capacity but the factory cannot accommodate a long straight tunnel.

Start with the product and process

Selection should begin with the product condition, piece size, inlet temperature, target core temperature and required hourly output. Seafood, prepared meals, fruit and vegetable products may require different belt arrangements, airflow and residence time.

Capacity and residence time

A larger nominal capacity does not automatically give the right freezing result. Product loading, belt speed, layer thickness, inlet temperature and required outlet temperature all affect the actual process. The freezer should be matched with upstream preparation and downstream packing equipment.

Check the factory layout

Measure available floor space, ceiling height, access routes, utility connections, drainage and maintenance clearance. A spiral freezer can save floor area, but its vertical structure still requires enough height and safe access for inspection and cleaning.

  • Confirm product type and size range
  • Define target capacity in kg/h
  • Provide inlet and outlet temperatures
  • Check ceiling height and maintenance access
  • Match conveyors, packing and cold storage capacity

What to prepare for a quotation

Send the product name and condition, capacity, piece size, temperature requirements, factory dimensions, power standard and existing line information. Product photos or samples help the engineering team assess the correct spiral configuration.
